Rafters lose Game 5 of 2022 to Jackrabbits

Kokomo stuns Wisconsin Rapids, 4-2

KOKOMO, IN — In what was perhaps one of the most competitive games of the Rafters’ dominating 2022 season, it wasn’t a favorable result. Wisconsin Rapids lost their fifth game of the season to the Kokomo Jackrabbits, 4-2.

Jackrabbits starter Richard Kiel began his dominant night at the top of the first by dropping the Rafters in order, 1-2-3. Rafters starter Jake Dahle pitched a scoreless bottom half of the first against the Jackrabbits. The Rats were again down 1-2-3 in the second, but the Jackrabbits were able to strike first in the half via an RBI pitch, making it a 1-0 lead for Kokomo. Jake Dahle pitched a scoreless third inning to end his night. He allowed one run on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Cam Nolet entered the game to pitch for the Rafters in the fourth and allowed a two-run single to Kyan Lodice to give the Jackrabbits a 3-0 lead. Nolet then pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings. He allowed two runs on Kokomo’s four hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

After six scoreless innings, Richard Kiel finally gave up on his first runs of the night. Aidan Brewer replaced the Rafters as a pinch hitter in the seventh and hit a two-run homer, his first as a Rafters, that brought Wisconsin Rapids within one, 3-2. Hoosier native Alec Burnett threw a scoreless bottom half of the seventh for the Rafters in his home state.

The Rafters had a chance to take the lead in the top of the eighth with two outs and two runners in scoring position. Garrett Broussard hit a chopper high in the middle that would have taken home two runs, but instead was stolen by Kokomo shortstop Riley Garcynski for number three. Garcynski then extended Jackrabbit’s lead into the bottom half after an RBI single, 4-2. In the top of the ninth, Seth Stroh hit a one-out double to put a runner in scoring position. Colin Tuft walked to put the tying run first. Kokomo reliever Hector Garcia retired the last two batters to end the game. Garcia won the same, Kiel won and Dahle won the loss.
